and I add potatoes (cut into fourths) and baby carrots, how long will it take for them to be done (soft)? Usually I just leave them in all day with the roast, but they get too done that way.

You can speed up the process by boiling the potatoes and carrots on the stove til they are mostly done, then add them to the crock pot and let them cook the rest of the way with the roast so the flavors blend.

Depends on what time you want to have dinner. If I were you I would cook my potatoes and carrots for a few minutes in the microwave before putting them in the crockpot. That way they won't take as long to cook, especially the carrots. If you put it on high they should be done in 30-45 minutes.

If you weren't home to throw them on when the roast had about two hours to go, I would just cook them separately on the stove top or in the microwave. If you put them in at 5 and wait until they're done, you're going to dry out the roast.

In my experience, it does take quite a bit of time to cook potatoes in the slow cooker...like 4-5 hours, which would make your dinner kinda late in the evening, so maybe you could just boil them in water seperately and then serve it with the roast.

Depends on the size of the crockpot, but yes it should be ready by then. About the veggies, try adding them an hour or two after the roast has been inside. :)

If you sautee the potatos and carrots in a skillet with a little butter, just enough to soften them, not only with it take very little time, but the already hot p's and c's with accept the flavors of the roast much easier. not to mention give them a much better color.

sounds right to me, I would leave the them in all day if you cant add them a few hours before you expect the roast to be done.

cook your roast on low
boil you vegetables in water
not more than 7 mintues or you'll kill the energy they give
as for your potatoes you need to fry em
if you like your potatoes soft boil em in water
in a pressure cooker it will do the job
then tip them all in n have em mixed
jus remember to have me a plate fixed !!!!

If your crock pot is on low it will take a couple of hours, if it is on high probably about an hour

Probably looking at another hour and a half, but you might speed up the process my microwaving the veggies a while first.
