Warwick Castle is my favourite, also Arundel castle near Littlehampton, Tower of London, Windsor Castle. Leeds Castle in Kent is lovely, but quite expensive to enter. Berkeley Castle, on the River Severn in Gloucesterhire was built in the 1100's and has had descendants of the same family living in up to day.

Leeds Castle has a wonderfully romantic setting and is easily accessible from London. It's not far from Maidstone in Kent. I think it's also one of the oldest in the UK too in terms of being in continual use.
They have concerts in the grounds - it makes for a great day out.

Warwick Castle is the best and after seeing it try to see Stratford Upon Avon a train links both so you could see both in a day. If you need more information try my 360 page leave me a message.

I'm from North Wales so I have to say Harlech castle (where Owain Glyndwr stayed)(wonderful views) and Caernarfon (where Prince Charles' investiture as Prince of Wales was held in 1969.)Conwy castle is spectacular too.Cricieth castle is small and not so well kept.
