my hubby has only just started treatment for his HBP and has been on pills for about 3 weeks, his readings are usually between 150/115 and 140/95.

he is 33 years old.
he has never noticed this b4, but he has just had along hot bath, then he took his BP, thinkin it would be on the high side, but to his amazement it was 135/72. this is the lowest readin he has had for 2 years, any ideas... reasons.... thoughts on this?

we would be really greatful for ur thoughts on this as we have been very worried about his BP, especially cos of his age.

thankyou in advance.

Typically, hot baths have a tendency to elevate blood pressure; of which you have noticed was odd, since his went down. I would suggest speaking with his doctor about this, but I believe that the reading was possibly incorrect. I don't recall in anything I have read or heard about that hot baths LOWER blood pressure; that is why they limit people to 15 minutes or less in jacuzzi's for that very reason.

My advice strongest to you is that your hubby NEVER lapse a single time on taking his BP meds. EVER.

I am engaged to marry a youngman who had two strokes. The first one was January 2000, at age 31 - of which he recovered nicely & had to do some rehab. The second one hit Sept 2001, and this one he nearly died from - he was 4 months shy of turning 33. He said his bp reading was 230/140? I can't recall.

Today, he is 100% wheelchair dependent, disabled - paraplegic with the right side of his body twisted and in constant pain. Why did this occur? He had no medical insurance and was distracted by girlfriend problems and didn't discipline himself into taking proper care of himself. He also said that the night before his stroke, he took some over-the-counter cold med that had a warning against those who have high blood pressure to not take it.

He knew that since he was 16 he had high blood pressure, but elected to pretend that all was ok - when it wasn't. Don't repeat his mistake. Life is very hard for him - for us - but together, we'll do fine.

Make sure your bp reader is in proper working order, fresh batteries and such. Best to you!

Sounds like his medicine is starting to work. Some medications take awhile to get into your system before you see any results. 135/72 is a great reading and yous should have some piece of mind with that. Just keep checking it and follow the Doctor's orders. Take your medicine the same time everyday and try to take the BP reading when he is relaxed. I have been on BP meds for more than 20 years and starting taking them when I was in my early 20's and it is scarey, but it is also treatable. If you take the BP reading when he is worried or stressed out it will be higher.
Good luck and I hope this puts your minds at ease a little.

If his regular reading after treatment are usually 150, the dosage of his medication needs to be upped a bit so as to try to het his bp to around 120. The reduction in bp after taking a bath is nothing to worry about. The warm bath relaxed him so his bp went down, but 135 is still considered a bit high.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Possibly not long enough to raise it and he has been relaxing.

If he is taking pills at that age, what else is he doing to lower the BP?

Exercise, not smoking, Cutting down on booze and a good diet will all help as 33 is very young for such high BP.
