And do you consider it rude?

I used to think it was rude until 2 years ago.

I was diagnosed with vocal chord cancer and had lost my voice. After the surgery I was not to try to talk for a month. I tried many polite ways. Unfortunately that was the one that worked. I also had a note explaining to them my situation. So that helped.

So sometimes it may be necessary for someone to resort to that.

How do you distinguish the difference is the real problem.

I've gotta admit that I'm a snapper but only at work on a certain occasion: When I'm on the phone and the guys come and start talking amongst themselves really loud. I'm usually on the phone with a customer and I cannot hear the customer over my co-workers. Since I can't "shush" them and would get in trouble if I threw things at them, I've gotta do what I can: the snapping of the fingers.

I usually thell them, I am not a dog, do not snap at me.
I find it rude, the person can not even take the time to say your name? The only time it is not as annoying is if they are on the phone with someone else and just need to get my attention.

Of course it is rude and normally you should not respond to the snaps. When someone snaps a finger to get your attention, make sure sure ignore the snaps and go so far away tah teven if he yells his lungs out you will not be able to hear him

It's very rude. I implies that the person snapping is much more important than you. So important that they do not need to use polite terms of address and that you as an inferior should be paying attention to them at all times.

Yes I get annoyed, and yes I consider it rude, especially if it is 6 inches in front of your face.

It is rude. I'm not a dog. A simple excuse me will suffice. I ignore people when they snap their fingers at me.

Yes and very.
If you need to speak to me Walk your happy butt over to were I am and ask me.
ALSO these company's that use an auto dialer to call you at home then play a recorded message, "Please hold the line for important information from (bank , power company, etc.) your account may be affected."
If you can't call me personally then I don't have time for your call.
What I do is wait for them to pick up then say "Oh hold on a sec I gotta let me dog in." and leave them holding the line for a while then hang up.

Yes and Yes.

I just ignore them. When they come over and say "Hey, I was trying to get your attention." I come back with "Really? I thought you had a booger on your finger and was trying to get it off."
