I have a tabby cat that is 2 years old and is from about 12 to 14lbs. She does not over eat and runs around alot I guess. I mean she is not hyper but she gets up and does stuff. She does like to sleep and relax though. I am just not sure if my kitty is fat and if I need to get her more active.

We usually like to see spayed female cats between 10 and 12 pounds. If you want to get her a little more active, try a laser light. Most cats are fanatics for that stupid little dot and they'll chase it for hours if they could. If you want her to lose wieght, try 10 to 15 minutes of exercise daily. Time yourself because 5 minutes will feel like 15. Hope this helps

If you are worried that she might be getting a tad thicker, switch her to a weight management food. That way she can stay where she's at. A cat's normal range can be anywhere from 8lbs-15lbs depending on their frame. I have a Persian that will never be above 7 lbs and a stray cat that I took in that is 17 lbs (the vet said he needs to drop a few pounds). It all depends on the breed, and their frame. Next time you take her for her shots (which should be annually) just ask the vet. Since we can't see your cat, we don't know if it's overweight or not. But 12-14, I wouldn't even worry about it. Have a good day!

I had the same thing... My 16 lb black cat was all muscle, only fat pocket where he was fixed. My tabby/abby mixed was about 12 lbs and when she ran you could see her pouch from being fixed go back and forth under her. You have to determine if you have loose skin or fatty pack where they are fixed, if your cat is, between just overweight fat. My black cat looked like a mini panther, face and all. He got less active as he got older. Both were self fed to. They were not overweight, Abbie was a bit but she is female and you know how us females carry our weight. So basically you have to look at breed, the skeletal structure of the cat. Feel the cat all over and if they feel muscular then don't worry. Discuss it with your vet as well.

If your vet says it's overweight. That's a great indicator. To check yourself, see if you can feel the ribs. If not, it's overweight.
