Sounds like you have tried them both. So have I. I use coconut oil for skin, cooking, and health. Haven't stuck with emu oil.

They are remarkably different in origin, coconut oil obviously coming from coconuts, while emu oil comes from dead birds. Seems a little gross to me. I'm not a vegetarian, but still...

Also, emu oil is less common, harder to get. I haven't priced it out, but would think it's also a lot more expensive too. Still, I can get both at the local health food store.

Coconut oil has an enormous history of use. Emu oil is much more limited.

I'm not sure if the two are mutually exclusive. But I cast my vote for coconut oil.

I know that a lot of people don't realize this, but the outer layers of human skin-- better known as the epidermis consists of layers of dead cells. Just like hair is dead. The outermost layer-- named stratum corneum-- is what you are spreading that expensive oil onto.
It may look nice and shiny, but spreading oils or lotions onto your 'skin' does nothing to make the underlying living layers any more healthy than putting nothing on it. You really shouldn't spend your hard earned money buying stuff like emu oil to spread over your 'skin'.
If you wish to improve the appearance of your 'skin' keep it clean and dry, get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced diet and drink lots of water.
