My fiance and I actually went shopping for his wedding band about a month ago and we asked the jeweler this exact question. Metal is going to scratch and bend alot easier than Titanium and Tungsten. She told us that usually people who work like offshore or at jobs where the ring will come in alot of contact with heavy machinery or will just get beat up go with the Titanium and Tungsten. They are more durable and they are heavier. Also Tungsten and Titanium rings cannot be resized. They are made to fit your finger unlike the traditional metal band that can be resized. So if you gain weight then you will have to buy a completely new ring. I talked my fiance into a metal ring because he doesn't ever do anything that would mess it up and if he has to get a new one ever then it won't be special because it wouldn't be the ring that he got on our wedding day. I hope I helped a little. So to answer the question of which band is better I would say that it really depends on the lifestyle and environment your going to have the ring in.

My fiance is an underground miner. They work a lot with heavy equipment and falling rocks and what not. Most of the miners swear by tungsten. The reason for that is that in case of an emergency tungsten rings are easier to remove than titanium. People will dispute this back and forth but fiance used to be on the mine rescue team. And the people on the mine rescue team agree that the tungsten is the easier of the 2 to remove when you don't have time to get to a hospital where they have all the right tools. His mine is a good 2 hours to the nearest hospital. Neither metals really scratch and if they do its a manufacturing defect and most jewelry stores will replace it for no fee.

Titanium scratches easily. Tungsten will look brand new forever. Tungsten is my preference for a man's wedding ring because it's strong, durable and masculine. Definitely tungsten. Go to Ebay and buy it though. The prices in jewelry store are in the hundreds.

Both are really hard darker metals. Tungsten is much heavier than Titanium and may cause a little discomfort for long term wear because of the weight.
We were considering that for our wedding bands as well but then we heard that you can't resize these metals so if you gain or lose weight down the road, they can't be resized.

Tungsten is practically indestructable, and cheaper than gold. This is appealing for many reasons, but also can lead to problems. If the man wearing the ring does anything that could be dangerous for his hands I would no reccommend a tungsten ring for one reason. If his finger gets crushed and swollen, no one will be able to cut the ring off. I have even heard that they will have to cut the finger off because of those rings. I would go with gold or white gold.

I dunno...when my (now) husband and I were looking for rings the store clerk was pushing the tungsten...its UNBELIEVABLY light (you could forget you were holding it!) and apparently damn near indestructible. We asked the jeweler if he could engrave it, or do some etching on it (since the metal itself is really plain) and he said he couldn't b/c the metal was too hard...I don't know how true that is...but there you have it...from the dude at the jewelery store in the mall...however ALL of my piercings are titanium, and since they have held up so well over the years, I would definitely go with the titanium...plus...the tungsten was jolly expensive for something that you couldn't even really personalize, while the titanium came decorated with damn near anything we could think of. (By the way...congratulations and Good Luck!)

Go with white gold....Your husband's hands and fingers with get thicker as he ages and he will have to resize his wedding band probably more than one. Titanium is a beast to resize because of its metallurgical propeties...Tungsten (carbide) used a wedding band is scratchproof and can NOT be resized.. Pure tungsten rings are even harder to resize due to the metals properties. White gold is easy for a jeweler to work with and can be resized sevear times OK?

Tungsten...is the best! My fiancee and i have been looking at wedding bands and we have found that this is a great metal..almost indestructible and looks great with everything. We are having ours made with the "dragon and phoenix" symbols as a symbol of how our relationship is. Go to justmetals.com for more info.

most people go with gold or platinum
I never heard of rings made of titanium(would be expensive)
or tungsten(they use that in light bulbs and wouldn't it be too soft to make into a ring?)
