Yes, Christians say that there is only one God, and that their God is the only God out there... but there are many religions around the world, who have their own versions of a God, or in some cases, many Gods. So, with the Christian song "Our God is an awesome God" it is both spiritually and politically correct so to speak. Christians are saying the God that they worship is awesome, and He is their God... and they are saying "our God" to acknowledge the fact that the Christian God is not the same God as found in other religions.

There is only one God. Ask the writer why those words were chosen. Maybe is just flowed better. Maybe it was written with people of different faiths in mind, so they could realize that Christians (plural) believe Our God is awesome. I think it sounds better than My God is an awesome dude.
May God Bless you.

Yes, Christians believe that there is only one God. However, other religions believe in other gods, but the song is specially talking about the Christian God.
Plus it just sounds better musically to say "Our God is an awesome God" rather than "God is awesome," and besides it wouldn't rhyme with "He reigns in Heaven above."

It's a pretty cool song...I tried what you're thinking of doing...it didn't go so well, the chick giggled when the song came on and said it was cheesy, so in retaliation I put on Ruin by Lamb of God and wouldn't you know it actually made for a VERY interesting night

Our God: People are singing together, about their God, the one and only God. An awesome: It is proper grammar to use "an" when the next word is a vowel, rather then "a".

It implies that there are many things that take the place of God in the lives of most people. Thus those things become gods to said people.(i.e., money, career, sex, other people, ect.,)

It implies that whoever wrote it lacks serious lyrical ability and they enjoy using poor English. It's as bad as "To Hell With The Devil" and the comment "Jesus is Lord" DUH... Where else would their "devil" go and what else could Jesus possibly be, according to their teachings? I'll be impressed when they come up with statements like, "Jesus meant what he said, so pay attention and actually PRACTICE what he taught instead of picking on other religions and people who don't necessarily agree with you."
Okay that's a long one but it's logical.

oOoOoo. i think its like that for lyrical purposes.
if you made it. God is the awesome God he reigns... it sounds funny...
*shrug*
but then again. if we were used to it that way it probably wouldnt seem so awkward, and then "our god is an awesome god" would be the awkward one.
hmmm... time to contemplate.

We are talking about the Christian God, the one in the Bible, making it clear that we do not believe in other religions Gods.

I know what you mean. (I have that song as my ring-tone).
We believe our God is the only Almighty and powerful being in the universe. In that, He is unique. But yes, there are many gods. Today they are called money, pride, power,...etc.
