Mistletoe that you see at xmas is the visible fruiting of a parasitic plant that goes on trees .

Birds quite often eat the mistletoe seeds (which are very sticky - and potentially poisonous to us humans) and when they defacate have to use a surface to wipe off the seed (and attendant goo ) . The mistletoe seed then plugs itself into its new host and grows a new plant.

Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that grows in trees. We generally do not see it during the time the trees have leaves, but after the leaves fall in the fall, we see round bunches in the branches of the trees. I live on the Eastern Shore of Mayland and we have mistletoe. They harvest it by shooting it with a shotgun.
