What must I do to open up email with .pps attachments?

You might be trying to open a PowerPoint file that was created using a higher version of PowerPoint than what you have. Try using the PowerPoint Viewer:

Powerpoint should be opening these files for you, however you may need to help powerpoint out and open the file through powerpoint. In order to do this you will need to download the file to your hard drive (make sure it is scanned by your antivirus) and then go to File -> Open in Powerpoint and see what you come up with.

What does it say when you try?
Perhaps try saving the file to your computer drive, and then right click on it within the directory it was saved in, click 'open with' and then select Microsoft Powerpoint?
