Oh dear!!

It is made from rice -- there is no doubt about that.

It is still like many wines, but it is made exactly the same way as beer is.

Where I come from (the EU) the legal definition of wine is that is is the fermented juice of grapes. But forgetting that definition -- anywhere that makes grape wine uses just juice of grapes -- they do not need to add water. In fact you can make wine from grapes without adding anything -- the miraculous grape carries its own yeast and can make wine without any other addition.

However beer makers need to get grains to sprout, then they add water and ferment the resulting mix -- that is exactly what sake makers do.

So it is clear to me that sake is a non-carbonated rice beer. It is not wine.

The aspects and the thank you to make it are like beer. the only wine-like factor sake had grew to become into the alcohol content and colour (merely approximately). yet now many beers are as alcoholic as sake. So it is extra like a lager than a wine. No malt in sake. No problems for me.

Actually it is neither. Although, most people will refer to it as Rice Wine it is actually a completely different calls of beverage.

"Sake (Japanese: 酒; pronounced [sa.kɛ] Listen (help·info)) is a Japanese word meaning "alcoholic beverage", which in English has come to refer to a specific alcoholic beverage brewed mainly from rice, and known in Japan as either nihonshu (日本酒 "Japanese alcohol") or Sake. This article uses the word "sake" as it is used in English.

Sake is widely referred to in English as "rice wine". However, this designation is not accurate. The production of alcoholic beverages by multiple fermentation is more characteristic of beer than wine. Also, there are other beverages known as "rice wine" that are significantly different from nihonshu."

Neither beer nor wine. Kind of like vodka, but made with rice.

Wine is made from fermenting fruit juice. Beer is made from fermented grain. Rice is a grain; sake is a beer.
