sounds like he had a hot spot and had picked at it untill he ruptured the skin.. now its healing.. best to leave it alone for now.. if you ever notice your cat chewing himself alott you should take him to the vet to find out if he has food allerigies or flea dermatitis as both of them will cause severe itching which results in bald spots or can cause hot spots as well. If this is not a first time or this has happened several times in a short period get him to the vet now and have them relive the itching for him.

You should ask a vet. Cat's sometimes have itchy skin, just like you or I, so they scratch it. Sometimes when you scratch your arm, skin comes up with your nails, right? It's the same thing. Cats and dogs both can chew bald patches on their bodies from irritated skin. You might want to try bathing them with something to help ease the itching, that should help.
HOWEVER.
There is also something called Mange, it is an infection that causes hair loss in the spots it affect. With cats, though, it's more likely to be a ringworm, so you really should ask your vet.

I think its just where the injury has healed and it takes time for the fur to grow (if it ever will). My black cat has got 2 of these - one on his head and another on his back. Both area's were where he had big scabs from fighting - the scabs have healed but now he has bald patches - very small but I see them when I feed him xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hey,
Millions of people all over the world are affected by hair loss, and it's not only the males that suffer this condition as even females are affected by this problem. What's sad is that many of the individuals affected by such a condition end up just accepting what is happening to their hair due to lack of information or options.
If you are looking for natural hair regrowth methods this is a good guide you can read http://hairagain.toptips.org
Hope it helps.

Cats can get flea dermetitis, its allergy where the cat is allergic to flea,s so proceeds to lick the sore skin taking its coat with it. If this is the case it would need a steriod inj as you may of rid the fleas but the allergy is affecting blood. Also if the cat got a abcess this some time happens after it bursts but the hair will regrow after a period of time

Hi
is possible that your cat has a ringworm infection. Or he has been in a fight and had a small infection where another cat has bitten or scratched him. Either way it will heal on its own as the cat doesnt seem ill You can of course catch ringworm from your cat yourself, though it is self clearing after a few weeks.

it will be fine, my long hair russian blue has the same thing right at the base of where his spine and tail meet. if it doesn't bother them it shouldn't bother you, unless the spot gets bigger, then there's reason for concern. as for now, scratch it every now and then, they like that :)
