The best 42" LCD TV right now is the Westinghouse LVM-42W2...HANDS DOWN! Nothing even comes close for this price point. This TV (monitor, actually, but who needs a tuner), is simply amazing!

BTW 3000:1-5000:1 Contrast Ratio is rediculously high and very suspect. Contrast Ratios are among the least important traits to look for in an LCD and generally disregarded. Resolution is most important.

When my company did a recent search for LCDs in the 40-48 inch range, we settled on the Sony FWD-40LX. The view angle is amazing and the colors (and variety of settings) are great!

I was at office-depot the other day, though, and saw a Phillips that was outstanding as well - 42".

Do your homework and really LOOK at them. Some are so freaking pixellated that they look like crap! Ask the salesman to show something besides an "aquarium" scene on them - you want to see live-action sports. Watch for "blocking" around moving objects - that would indicate too slow an LCD array for good picture quality. Also, some have "color saturation" problems, and some have "brightness" issues.
