The Catholic News Service Stylebook on Religion seems to be a great book on all kinds of church terms, with entries on everything from Abba (always capitalize when used as a proper name for God) to zucchetto (don't call it a beanie!).

You best bet is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You can pick up a soft-cover edition for as little as $10, and there are electronic versions on the Internet as well.

If you are really ambitious, I also suggest the 1983 Code of Canon Law. There are hard copies but they are both expensive and multi-volume. Your best bet would be to use an electronic version on the Internet.

There are many sites that offer catechisms and Codes of Canon Law. Just do a search for "Catechism of the Catholic Church" and/or "1983 Code of Canon Law, and you'll be in good shape.

Yes - the legal definitions of all recognized titles of the Roman Catholic Church can be found in the 1983 Code of Canon Law. It's a law book, so you shouldn't have any trouble with it.

Ask your priest! He probably is familiar with many different positions especially if he started out as an altar boy!

They don't have a designated chain of command. They just figure that the priest follows his boss's commands, and he follofs his boss's commands, and so on and so forth.
