I was having a conversation with a woman who was trying to convert me to the Church of God. According to her and the pamphlets she was trying to give me it is the only true Christian
denomination in the world. Followers of the Church of God go to church on Saturday instead of Sunday. All the other Christians have been deceived by a false teaching and will be denied a place in the Kingdom of God,because Saturday was originally intended
by God to be the Sabbath.

So according to this theory all other Christians are going to the Lake of Fire for going to church on the first day of the week instead
of the seventh.

What do you think about that?

Well, it's silly. But if you think about it objectively, it's pretty silly to think that the Creator of All That Exists is going to torture people forever, who didn't buy a story about his son being some kind of human sacrifice.

Can you be denied entrance into the kingdom of Heaven for breaking the Sabbath?
No AND Yes, it depends on the person.

Acts 17:30 says "In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent." NIV

There are people around the world who do not know that the Sabbath is Saturday and that it should still be kept holy. These people are innocent because they do not know any better. God overlooks there ignorance. So no these people are not guilty

But there are people who see the Sabbath command and instead of saying "This is TRUTH" and following it they make excuses like- it is part of the old law, pick a day it doesn't matter, it's legalism, or they misquote scripture. These people are guilty because they have seen the evidence and recieved the KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH and continue to make excuses, they do not repent

"For if we sin WILLFULLY after that we have received the KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries."Hebrews 10:26,27

You can NOT be saved by keeping the law, that is legalism... BUT
You can NOT go to Heaven while knowingly and WILLFULLY breaking the law because that is disobedience

You are saved by knowing and loving Jesus, and Jesus says "If you love me KEEP my commandments"

"The man who says, 'I know him,' but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him." I John 2:4

I am a Seventh-Day Adventist and we believe that God still expects His followers to keep the Sabbath Holy

Revelation 14 says that 3 messages go out to the world right before the end comes. The first message says worship the creator and then it quotes the 4th commandment.

God is calling his people to return to the commandments and worship Him as He has described. He wants His people to leave man made traditions and come back to His word.

Commonly misquoted scripture used to support Sunday worship
Acts 20:7
but where in this verse does this say that the Sabbath is done away with?
Where does this verse say that we should keep Sunday Holy?
Where does this verse say that it was common to meet on Sunday?
The verse tells us why the met on Sunday because Paul was leaving the next day

1 Corinthians 16:2
Where does this verse say that the Sabbath is done away with?
Where does this verse say that Sunday is the new day of worship?
Where does this verse say that they even met on Sunday?
This verse says nothing about worship. What it is talking about is collecting money to distribute in Jerusalem (vs. 3) due to the famine Acts 11:28-30 it was not a continuous activity.

If we look at Acts 18 Paul went to Corinth to build the Church

Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
Acts 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

That is 72 Sabbaths.

Col. 2:16-17
verse 17 says "things which are a mere shadow of what IS TO COME; but the substance belongs to Christ."
These verses are talking about ceremonial Sabbaths like passover which points to the crucifiction, the feast of first fruits which points to the resurrection etc but the 7th day points to creation. It does NOT point FORWARD it points BACK to creation. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy" Why? "Because in 6 days the Lord created the Heavens and the earth."

Revelation 1:10 and the Lord's Day?
Where in this verse does it call Sunday the Lord's Day?

There are only two days called the Lord's Day in the Bible the Sabbath and the 2nd coming
Exodus 20:8
Isa 58:13,14
Matt 12:8
Mark 2:28
Luke 6:5

God Bless

If God sent people to the lake of fire for worshipping him incorrectly, then everybody would be in the lake of fire. I don't think anyone worships God absolutely correctly, because human beings are imperfect.

However God is not out to send people to the lake of fire. Quite the oposite. He is trying to avoid that at all costs, even at the cost of Jesus dying on the cross. Because of that, those who accept salvation get to go to heaven.

Worshipping God is a sincere response of gratitude and love from people to God. That is the only kind of worship God wants or accepts. The most important thing is the motive. The action will always be less than perfect.

As for Sabbath, yes it is on the 7th day of the week, not the first. The Bible is very clear on that. God does not ask people to worship him on Sabbath as far as i can tell, but rather worship is not something you do on one day a week, it is a continual attitude of loving service to God (Romans 12:1-3). God does ask people to rest from their weekly work on the Sabbath and to do good on the Sabbath, and if we love God, we shall do what he asks of us.

interesting, but the sabbath is a day set aside for god. not any specific day of the week, as we dont know the actual day god rested we just say it was the 7th day. now take for instance, you have a job where you work wednesday through sunday, your 7th day falls on tuesday. *shrug* this is all how you perceive things.

not to mention i dont recall christ talking about the sabbath, and afterall many christians claim he came and changed things.

if that were true, then by keeping the sabbath holy you would stay at home. read the bible it'll explain more things your not supposed to do on the sabbath, anything that is a form of work. goign anywhere would be considered work. - no going to store, no doing chores, no cleaning, no cooking. *shrug*

exodus 20:8-11

8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

I really and truly think this woman should read the NEW TESTAMENT which Christ shed his blood and became the testator to. He had to die for the N.T. to come into effect.
According to JESUS we are to come together on the first day of every week to remember HIS DEATH. I would rather obey GOD than any Person ( man or woman) who come and teach false doctrines. We have GOD'S OWN inspired word and that is all The Church of Christ follows. Christ said I will build MY CHURCH
Ephesians 4:4,5,6 There is ONE LORD ONE FAITH ONE BAPTISM
ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL WHO IS ABOVE ALL AND THROUGH ALL AND IN YOU ALL.

It does not matter what man or woman says it only matters what GOD SAYS.
God tells us to worship him :
Acts 20:7
Matthew 26:26-28
1 Corinthians 11:23-28
Ephesians 5:19
1 Cor. 14:15
Col. 3:16
Romans 6:1,2,3,4
Romans 12:4,5
John 4:24
Acts 20:7
Acts 2:38
God tells us exactly how and when to worship him and anything contrary to GOD'S WORD is false.

The bible does say that there is only one church and one faith Ephesians 4:4,5,6, but it is not the chruch of God because in the book of Acts, the chapter and verse escapes me right now, but we find examples of christians worshipping on Sunday. Christians do this because it is the first day of the week, the day Jesus rose from the dead.

I could tell you how people disobey the bible, but since i am now pagan, I will just let you find it for yourself. Try to just read Matthew to Revelations, and do not concern yourself with what people say are prophecies, but read it as it means what it says and says what it means and do this three times in a row, I bet your eyes will be opened. Don't read it to prove what you already beleive, but like you were reading it for the first time to see what it says.

Read it as if you are living in the first century. Take off your 20th century glasses.

I think its a huge waste of energy and time to assume that you have know the truth and everyone else is decieved. In trying not to sound like Pascalls Wager here, I dont know if you are a believer or not, but if you are not, lets just say for argument's sake that the God of the Bible is real and we are supposed to believe the Bible. (which I do by the way) John was shown Heaven when he recieved the Revelation, and this is what he saw Rev 7:9 9After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb."

Now, do we REALLY think there is a great multitude from every people tribe and language, that no man can number, that follows any ONE religion? Of course not. Church of God hasnt even been around very long so of course they can be numbered and they're NOT in every race and language. However, the Bible says We are saved by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus. Eph 2:8 not in believing everything correctly, not by understanding it all, not by what day we go to Church, infact, there is NEVER a mention of keeping the Sabbath after Christ ressurected, and not by living sinlessly. Im sure there is an innumerable amount of people since the beginning of time who have recieved grace through faith. I dont think salvation is as hard as everyone wants to make it.

The Fourth commandment is still in force... so they are correct about the Sabbath..... the are in error if thy think they are The True Church.... The True Church has no visible building or man controled "denomination" controling the relationship of God to the individual.......All who come to God in The Way He prescribes will receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become of The body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. These are tha ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven.......... whatever "denomination" one is a member of has nothing to do with The Church..... Those of The Church may be found in most of the "Christian Denominations"... But... not all in any denomination are of The Church...

Strange, the "Church of God" people in my geographical location all attend church on Sunday. Some times we (the church I attend) and they see who can sing the loudest, as they are just across the street. It is kind of neat, for after service, we meet out on the sidewalks and congratulate each other on the quality of some of the singing. You know the old saying, "Singing is praying twice." The Bible says to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Then many all go to the local restaurant and have coffee and continue chatting. Really good Christian fellowship. So, I don't know where the woman who was bugging you was coming from, but "get some 'holy water'" ;-) and defend yourself. :-) YBIC

I would say to be careful when someone tells you this, they are Judging others when they say they are going to hell, only God decides this. God wants you to worship him, he set apart a day for the Jews to rest and show that he would take care of them but they took this law too far. When Jesus came he showed them their flaw by healing people on the Sabbath and he is not in hell. Yes Saturday is the original sabbath but you can worship God 24/7 and you would be the better for it.

I think it's a cult.
