my ex girlfriend says she is gonna end her life and says she took 10 co-codamol yesterday is she just seeking attention. i live far away and dont know any of her friends . she has a kid and im worried about the kid should i phone social services . i dunno what to do

NO ! Social Services that never helped anyone . To be honest either ignore her or help her by going down to see her she cant live that far away . If she took 10 tablets yesterday and shes still talking then no drama shes fine .

Well if she took the pills yesterday, & she's still alive today then the emergency is over for the time being. So I would suggest that you make an attempt to confirm that she is OK, & keep checking until you have confirmed it one way or the other. Or did you mean that she called you today, & said that she took the pills yesterday? If that's the case then I would say that she is probably OK for now, but she could be on a slippery slope.
Most attempted suicides are a cry for attention, or a desperate attempt at manipulating others.
The thing is that if she's at the stage where she is articulating to you & others about suicide then she may keep on trying with escalated efforts until she either succeeds, or gets the results that she wants. (Like getting you back into her life or something)
Since there is a kid involved then calling social services may help the child, but you may have to do more than that to get help for her.

Try to locate some of her friends where she lives, because she may be trying to draw you back to her, & at least for now it's working.

As a mother myself, I would definitely call Social Services or atleast someone that can check on her. She is crying out for help for a reason. Yes, we women have often used the "I'm going to kill myself" tactic to gather attention. I think I may have even been guilty of that (when I was 16). However, if she is much older than that, there may be true cause for concern.

Also, even if she is not going to kill herself, she is eveidently not currently focusing healthy attention to herself or more importantly, her child. That is a huge concern. Do you know someone that can check on her? Calling Social Services may indeed be necessary, but it is a drastic step that can lead to huge consequences. See what you can do, but in the end, they may still need to be called.
