Is it common practice to have the CUT in the middle of the sink and glued together rather
than a 45 degree cut at the end or some place else??

When the job is done, you should not be able to tell where the seam is. Granite is not like laminate. We are used to seeing the 45 degree cuts on laminate, but that is not necessary for granite since it can be glued and finished to hide the lines.

There should be no seams at the sink cut out. The thin strips of granite are too weak to create a seam. Usually a normal seam is a straight cut not a 45 degree cut.

Neither my sink nor my cooktop holes are cut in the middle. We were able to get slabs big enough that they cut a hole in the slabs and connected them in the corners. I have a U shaped counter top configuation, but did not want either opening to have seams.
