I have a seven month old Chorkie that is very aggressive and dominant even when you're petting him. He used to go into his crate very easily, now he will run all over the house barking and snapping. He is also a yapper when others come into the house or room and will not shut up when commanded. My biggest concern is his aggression.

Is your dog aggressive over everything or just certian things? My dog is aggressive around new people, and I got some really good advice that's been helping alot. It uses positive reinforcement. If he is agressive around people, what they told me to do is start taking him on walks and as soon as you see another person off in the distance that might be like 50 yards a way start treating your dog and then walk across the street to keep the distance, do this for awhile then decrease the distance between the stranger, then eventually if the dog is okay with a person being with about 10 feet, have the stranger throw him treats. it does take awhile to break his habit, but it is worth it. I've been working on it for a few months and my dog at least allows people near him now, but we're working on letting them pet him!

Watch "the Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel - or pick up one of his videos. Other than that - you need to be very clam around him and not reward his aggressive behavior. Don't yell, don't hit. Adopt the same attitude as if someone that you do not respect and know you could whup in a fight is threatening you.
Give him the evil eye posture and step in between. It wont work unless you believe it. In example: why did Fonz on happy days never get in a fight? Attitude.
You need to be Fonz around your Chorkie. Quit all the petting. He thinks he's the boss. You need to be.But don't yell - don't say anything but a very calm very quiet no - after you have blocked his path with your body. If he bites you then you don't believe you are the boss yet and you need to get the video or watch the show. Obedience wont do it. Neutering wont do it and neither will attempting to hold him down until you master the above.

Hello,
I recently purchased a chorkie male. He is now 13 weeks. We have an 11 year old Cocker mix and an older cat. Rottie is very protective of his food bowl and very aggressive if one of the other animals gets near it. He will snarl and bark at them. He is very protective and jealous if I show any attention to the other animals. I pet him while I am holding the other animals and he seems to settle down. He is not aggressive toward children or adults and is a real loveable puppy.
I was told to talk to a trainer regarding his aggression. He said to NEVER strike or yell at this breed and to seperate him at feeding time. Also, dry food is the only food to give them because of their teeth. They tend to have very soft teeth that decay easily. Now that he has only dry food his aggression is gone and he actually eats with Max in the same bowl. The trainer also said that it is very important to expose them to other puppies to play with and learn social behavior.
What state do you live in? Did anything happen to make him not like his crate? Let me know how it goes.....

Lately, I have been watching the show "Dog Whisper" and what he does is hold the dog down until he submits to you and knows you are dominate and the leader of the pack. The show is on the animal planet channel. He does not hurt the dogs but he is firm. I hope this helps with the aggressiveness.

I've heard that a lot of that aggression comes from the transition of puppy to adult animal. Many people suggest getting your animal fixed. It lessens the aggression and is safe to do since he is now 7 months old.

No - Meow Mix should be pulled from the shelves. Its the worse food on the market. I would not feed stray cats that crappy food. Your kitten needs to be on high quality canned food and dry food - use Wellness, Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, Max Cat and Royal Canin.

Have him neutered and enroll him in puppy school. You need to learn to how to nip that aggression in the bud.

Get him neutered and into obedience classes, and working especially on recall.
