II was denied financial aid because my income for the year of 2005 was too much; I was told that I have to be below at least 13,000.00 per year to qualify. I currently gross about 19,000.00 a year so if I apply again I would still be denied. I do not want to have to pay back any loans, and I don’t qualify for scholarships because I am told old (27 yrs), to receive any type of scholarship you have to be a high school graduate. Are there any other alternatives besides loans, I really cannot afford to pay back any loans right now.

Speak with the financial aide advisor at your college. No matter what your age, there are often grants available that depend on your major, your personal life, your field, your heritage, even your age! For some you might have to write an essay or something, but there are always corporations and private benefactors with little known money to hand out to deserving folks trying to work their way through higher education.

One example? My son is a criminal justice major and our local sheriff's department has a grant available to any student living in the county who has any form of law enforcement as a major who is NOT a first year student fresh out of high school.

Another? The state of South Carolina is so desperate for black male teachers as good role models to students that they will pay for the education expenses of a college student willing to sign on the dotted line to teach in SC upon graduation... no age limit.

Speak with your financial aide advisor and best of luck to you!

There are many private scholarships and grants out there and some are for adult students only.

Also try to Federal Financial Aid. You do not have to pay it back until 6 months after graduating or if that isn't possible you can apply for a 1 year forebearance to delay payment. Federal aid doesn't have such a low income limit and the interest rates are relatively low.

If you don't qualify for financial aid or scholarships and you don't want to get a loan then your options are limited. Have you considered going into the military? You could earn money and an education at the same time!!! Just a suggestion! :) Have a wonderful day!!

Try to look for some grants or businesses that might sponsor you and give you scholarships. Maybe plead your case with the college or find a cheaper college to go to. Good luck!

there are several loan options that do not require immediate pay back. subsidized loans accrue interest that is paid by the government until you graduate. perhaps that type of loan might be an option. good luck.
