No not illegal but I am definitely for the ban in public places as I don't see why non-smokers should have to suffer bad effects of other people's bad habit.

In any case, if smoking was totally made illegal there wouldn't be enough Police to actually police it, I mean they are already struggling to manage illegal drugs let alone anything else!

By all means ban everything that is bad for your health smoking
drinking, gambling etc and try and answer this question where
will the govt of this country get the revenue to pay the 950,000
people in this country to stay out of work ?
Remember this smokers drinkers and gamblers are contributing
a lot to the economy albeit damaging their health.I would rather
let them continue with their habits, than me trying to find an
extra £200 a week in tax.
I smoked for forty years and decided to give it up 6yrs ago,I am
still working and still contributing to the system.
Then we can tackle the really bad issues Murder, Muggings,
Rape, remember to they are illegal

No. I do not think any government has the right to tell people what they can and can not do (reasonably). Smoking usually does kill, but so does alcohol, serosis of the liver, drunk driving, etc. How about people who eat fast food everyday? If you ban one, you'd have to ban them all. People who don't smoke think they pay more in insurance premiums b/c of smokers, actually do not. When you apply for health or life ins. you must fill out a questionnaire and get a physical. You are asked if you smoke. I've checked, and if you say yes, your premiums are much higher. If there is no smoking in public places (pretty much is already), so be it. But what people do in their cars or privacy of their own home, is their business and no one elses.

No, it shouldn't be illegal, because if someone wants to smoke in their own house they should be allowed to. However, I do think that smoking shouldn't be allowed in public places. People who do not smoke should not have to deal with the second hand smoke and the smell. I hate it when I'm walking at a flea market and people are smoking. It's gross and I shouldn't have to endure someone's bad habit.

Yes, ban cigarettes completely. The lost excise duty will have to be found from somewhere else.

If everybody stopped smoking, we will need to find another group to be duty social lepers. Pick on drinkers as, at the weekends, the majority of trouble in towns and cities is caused by alcohol. Hospital A & E departments also bear the brunt of alcohol related incidents at weekends. Let's make drinking illegal.

Right, we have now banned tobacco and alcohol. Who shall we tax to hell now that the revenue from alcohol and tobacco is no longer coming in????

I've got it. Petrol can be £20 a gallon, that should bring in some revenue from those dirty, anti-social car drivers.

Where does this Nanny State Crap End ????????

Why? For health reasons? In that case, let's also ban alcohol, McDonalds, all high fat food, TV and cars since these are all unhealthy. A ban on smoking in public is one thing, making it illegal completely, no way. If I want to smoke myself to death in the privacy of my own home, I damn well will.

Edit: To those saying smokers are a burden on health insurance, I live in England and smokers pay for the entire National Health Service in taxes so why don't you try and see both sides of the story, idiots?

No. Smokers are national benefactors. The taxes they pay for their habit more than fund the medical care they receive & when they die young, they save the country a considerable amount of money in terms of pensions & benefits.

Good luck to them, its a free country. As long as they don't poison the air around me, they can do what they like.

only if drinking alcohol is illegal, and consuming caffeine or any kind of stimulant is illegal, and procreation by genetically-challenged people is illegal, and eating anything containing fat or cholesterol is illegal, and obesity is illegal, and fuel-combustion engines are illegal, and wiping out rainforests is illegal...etc.
