My husband is returning for R&R...from Iraq in about 2 months and we have been talking about taking a vacation during that time. I want to take him to a really nice resort so we can just relax on the beach and have a really good time. I want a really beautiful resort as well. I am thinking about a resort in the Bahamas. Any suggestions? It would be great if you could give suggestions based on personal visits.

I'd say check St. Lucia. The Ladera has received rave reviews & is perfect for couples. St.Lucia has a lot to offer outside of the typical shopping for cheesy t-shirts and souveniers (though you can still buy them if you want). There are tours you can take, eco-tourism, beaches, and local parties if you need to let loose. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar which will make things slightly cheaper vs the Bahamas. St. Lucia is very green, meaning it does rain there, but you'll still get sun in the day & showers typically in the morning and late afternoon (this isn't the rainy season & your vacation won't be a washout). There is also a Sandals Resort on the island, but the Ladera looks so much nicer. Good luck on your search, and keep an open eye to places that aren't the typical tourist destinations you usually hear about.

Hi there,

Wow, what a great wife! If not in the Bahamas, if you can allow me to tell you this. The weather in this time of the year is terrible. My girlfriend just got back from Grand Caymen on business. She said it rained the entire time and was very windy. I can suggest this. We live in Orlando, Florida. There are several types of resorts here. The most expensive are not always the best though (advice..) The one that stands out the most is the Gaylord Palms. It is located in Kissimee, Florida right outside of Orlando. It has many amenities including pools, a gorgeous gym, 5 beautiful resteraunts, top notch service, entertainiment, and is located within 10-15 minutes of Walt Disney world, Universal and all of the other Florida attractions.

I hope this helps. Go here and check them out. They have resorts all over the country. www.gaylordpalms.com

It is part of my job to travel around and check resorts all over the Caribbean. My top three would be...

ST. BARTHELEMY
Le Toiny Hotel
An enchanting property on a hillside overlooking the sea. The ultimate in privacy, this retreat has only 12 villa-suites, each with its own picket fence, swimming pool and fitness equipment, air conditioning, TV/VCR, four-poster canopy bed, and private terrace.

NEVIS
Four Seasons Resort
Paradise nestled on a 350-acre former coconut-tree grove, this plantation-style resort is the only AAA Five Diamond property in the Caribbean. Most rooms have verandahs that overlook the sea or the 18-hole golf course.

JAMAICA
Goldeneye Villas
Sitting on a bluff that overlooks a secluded cove minutes away from Ocho Rios, this 15-acre estate consists of a handful of villas. The main one was once home to Ian Fleming, creator of the James Bond character, and state-of-the-art equipment enhances original furnishings.

Have a great vacation!

I actually agree with the person who recommended the USA. How bout Galveston for example. However if he likes diving then definitely take him on a trip to BELIZE. Then, like the Belikin Beer song goes... stay down there till somebody runs you outta there. Just make sure he likes adventure!

Don't you think he would prefer to spend a little time in the good old USA instead. We have some beautiful beaches here too. But if you want something more exotic... we went to Playa del Carmen (Mexico) last year. It was beautiful. God Bless, praying for his safe return.
