I'm a writer and rather unfamiliar with the medical world, I have a patient in one of my books who has a gunshot wound to the thigh, sadly to progress the story she must pass away. I'm looking for common and fatal infections associated with gunshot wounds or an incompetent doctor. Any suggestions? Please feel free to contact me via my earthlink email.

jonathan, as a doctor, I would suggest a comlplication and not an incompetent doctor, wound infections in gun shots can be as straight forward as streptococcus or staphylococcus (strep or staph). in diabetics they can be anaerobic infections which have gas gangrene under the skin and in the surrounding tissue and can be felt as a crepitus on palpation or gram negatives like pseudomonas which can have a smelly green discharge. abscesses can be expected if untreated wounds are seen and fever, chills and drenching sweats suggest a systemic infection, bacteremia, septicemia or septic shock, good luck
