when Christ returned in the person of Baha'u'llah, He abolished the concept of priesthood. Now it is the duty of everyone to independently seek after the truth.

Would Christ abolish priesthood after he ordained priests and teachers and propets? or is this a false christ? Why would you conclude either answer is true?

i disagree that the 2nd coming will be like a thief in the night. but i do agree that he has made appearances by the hundreds like a thief in the night. Appearing throughout history. i dont think jesus reincarnated either. but there are many people who do. So i have to put that theory on the back burner. till it can be resolved. The second coming will be In Glory, in the clouds with great glory and holy angels, he will also have to appear 4 times to each continent. think aboaut that one.

I am a Baha'i and what ever Darthmaul is , its true :

Jesus did come back in 1844, His name is Baha'u'llah(Manifestation of God), founder of the Baha'i faith.

The early nineteenth century was a period of messianic expectations in many lands. Deeply disturbed by the implications of scientific inquiry and industrialization, earnest believers from many religious backgrounds turned to the scriptures of their faiths for an understanding of the accelerating processes of change. In Europe and America groups like the Templers and the Millerites believed they had found in the Christian scriptures evidence supporting their conviction that history had ended and the return of Jesus Christ was at hand. A markedly similar ferment developed in the Middle East around the belief that the fulfillment of various prophecies in the Qur'an and Islamic Traditions was imminent.

The Baha'is out there can jump in on this and correct me, but this is what I understand of their beliefs.

Each Divine Manifestation of God (Buddha, Christ, Mohammed, Baha'u'allah, etc) brings with them a two-fold message. The first part is Universal and unchanging. The second part is the mundane stuff.

Example, the dietary laws laid down in Levitticus. I do not see many Christians avoiding pork or shrimp or cheeseburgers because of those. What happened? The need for those laws was overcome and superceded by the next Divine Manifestation.

Human sacrifice is another example. We have plenty of Biblical evidence that early people of what we now call Hebrews sacrficed their children to God. Let us hope we are mostly through with that. Baha'is are. They are mostly pro-peace. Jews, Christians and Moslems seem not to be there yet. *sigh*

So, Universal messages that the Supreme Being loves us and we should be good to each other stand on their own. The rest, maybe like priesthood and such (and I do not remember Jesus ever ordaining any priests) was temporal.

Just my understanding, not taking sides in this.

Bible:
3:11 The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.

(King James Bible, Micah)

Jesus Himself told His followers to watch for His return...not to sit idly and wait. The Bible told us that the return would be "like a thief in the night": Subtle to All but those who truely seek Him. Jesus had also taught that we would know the true one by His fruits. How does one know of the fruits when they have not investigated?

Baha'u'llah means The light of God, or The Glory of God.The glory of the Lord.

Didn't Jesus the Christ say he he would come again in Glory.

And Below you can see just a few instances in a few religions what is mentioned about clergy.

I found it very interesting to say the least.

Bahai:
Whosoever hath recognized Me, hath known all that is true and right, and hath attained all that is good and seemly; and whosoever hath failed to recognize Me, hath turned away from all that is true and right and hath succumbed to everything evil and unseemly.

(Compilations, Fire and Light, p. 15)

"Then He said that His Holiness Jesus Christ had also come with the
power of the Great Ether, but the haughty priesthood of His day
thought of Him as a poor, unlettered youth and believed that if
they should crucify Him, His Teachings would soon be forgotten.

(Misc Baha'i, The Diary of Juliet Thompson)
Islam:
The early Christian clergy often had
more than one wife at one time.

(Islamic Miscellaneous, Gail - Six Lessons on Islam, p. 25)

Like a Christian who confesses to a priest
His past year's sins of fornication, fraud, and deceit;
In order that the priest may absolve him of those sins;
He thinks the priest's absolution the same as God's!

(Mathnavi of Rumi (E.H. Whinfield tr), The Masnavi Vol 5)

31. They take their priests and their anchorites to be their lords in derogation of Allah, and (they take as their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; Yet they were commanded to worship but one God: there is no god but He.

(The Qur'an (Yusuf Ali tr), Surah 9)

Christian:
7. The Roman See must abolish the papal offices, and diminish that crowd
of crawling vermin at Rome, so that the Pope's servants may be supported out
of the Pope's own pocket, and that his court may cease to surpass all royal
courts in its pomp and extravagance; seeing that all this pomp has not only
been of no service to the Christian faith, but has also kept them from study
and prayer, so that they themselves know hardly anything concerning matters of
faith, as they proved clumsily enough at the last Roman Council, [21] where,
among many childishly trifling matters, they decided "that the soul is
immortal," and that a priest is bound to pray once every month on pain of
losing his benefice.

(Martin Luthers Address to the Nobility, Respecting The Reformation Of The Christian Estate 1)

(1 Peter v. 2).

Judaism:
2 7,2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD filled the LORD'S house.

(Kesuvim (Writings), Divrei HaYomim (Chronicles))

Book of Mormon:
JAR 1:11 Wherefore, the prophets, and the priests, and the teachers, did labor diligently, exhorting with all long-suffering the people to diligence; teaching the law of Moses, and the intent for which it was given; persuading them to look forward unto the Messiah, and believe in him to come as though he already was. And after this manner did they teach them.

Priesthood has been abolished, as nowadays it is becoming easier to learn to read, more people have access to education. As human beeings in positions of leadership in the clergy tended to abuse their power, this has been changed. The Bahai Faith has elected assemblies at local and national level which in turn elect a supra-national assembly of nine members, the Universal House of Justice with its seat in Haifa.

Here a quote from Abdu'l Baha to illustrate this point:

"Among these teachings was the independent investigation of reality so that the world of humanity may be saved from the darkness of imitation and attain to the truth; may tear off and cast away this ragged and outgrown garment of 1,000 years ago and may put on the robe woven in the utmost purity and holiness in the loom of reality. As reality is one and cannot admit of multiplicity, therefore different opinions must ultimately become fused into one."

Another passage from the works of A. Taherzadeh:
"Another category of people who wielded enormous power was the clergy. Throughout the whole period of recorded history these men held the reins of power in their hands, and guided the masses in their ways. This was perhaps necessary as in former days most people were illiterate and needed to be led by someone. The authority with which religious leaders acted within the community, both in the East and the West, was so deeply rooted in the hearts of people that even kings were bound to obey them. [...] With a stroke of His mighty Pen, He abolished the institution of priesthood and announced that He had seized their power, a power they had wielded from time immemorial."

abolishing priesthood seems like a brilliant idea. i would say that jesus christ, if he returned and saw the catholic church, which is the oldest form of christianity with roots in st peter, he would be appalled.

i think that jesus would rather his flock study the bible on their own instead of belonging to an international corporation under the guise of a "church"

Chrst has not returned yet first of all and when He does it will be to set up HIS kingdom. Bahai are yet another blind cult and I say that with spiritual confidence. Whats the Word say? The Messiah is seated at the right hand of the Father. Thats what it says. He is not reincarnated as some false christ/prophet. I say that with the utmost assurance.

As far as the priesthood goes, Christ abolished the need to go through a priest for the remission of sins. By splitting the veil, He became the bridge between man and God. We can go directly to God with our requests and petitions. Pastors and those who are called priests are supposed to be teachers of the Gospel. They are not some god like figure where everything must go through them before it can get to God. Beware of that.

If you want to be Bahai, prepare for a lot of logical contradictions while weaving together all major religions. I have a Bahai friend. The first time I asked her to explain what her religion was about, she started crying. She couldn't. She has become more articulate sense then (it was ten years ago), especially since she went to work for the Bahai in Chicago, but the problems remain.

i've heard of chinese religions saying Jesus was reincarnated as another of their god, etc. Lots of religion try to link others together to gain credibility and stuff, but is that really the true God? i doubt so, the Bible doesnt say Jesus will do that specifically for any religions.
