my nephew is only two months old and he cries beyond feeling sleepy, hungry, or wet. its a cry that sounds like someone is hurting him or has. and when he cries he has full tears! if you hold him in your arms he screams even louder and its very difficult to quiet him down, the only way is to shake a toy rattle in front of him. I think his mother, my brother's girlfriend has been beating him. i hope not, but what do you think and how could i calm him down?

Its most likely colic. Thats what a constantly crying baby is termed as, a baby with colic.
Its usually caused by gas, which is usually caused by the food he's eating.
Look it up online. He may need a different brand formula, or if she's breast feeding she might need to change her diet to better suit him. If hes still upset he might be lactose intolerant and need soy formula or for her to cut dairy out of her diet completely so its not in her milk.
Its perfectly normal for babies to develop colic.

It's colic and it's awful please try to give the Mom a break as much as possible because it is very difficult to deal with a crying baby. The crying is probably worse in the early evening hours between 5 and 11 pm and can last a while.I am serious when I say this but put the baby in his swing or bed and turn on the vacuum cleaner or loud music in the room. It will help trust me.i had a baby with colic and he cried and cried and cried. If you can rule out that he is not tired or hungry or wet... then try this. All babies go thru fussy periods but it really peeks at this age 7 and 8 weeks old and doesn't get better until around 12- 14 weeks. Please help out if you can.
Good Luck!

It sounds like he may have colic. colic is crying in babies: excessive crying and irritability in infants from a variety of causes, especially stomach or intestinal discomfort. when a baby has colic there isn't really too much you can do. try getting him some medicine they have gas drops for babies that might help or open a can of ginger ale let it get flat and feed him a little bit out of a medicine dropper. this remedy helped me out alot. and if all else fails try using something with a loud noise such as a vacuum cleaner, it might stop long enough to get a break.

I hope you have others reasons for saying that you think his mother is beating. Some babies have colic and some don't know how to settle themselves down. You should suggest to his mom to take him to the doctor to get it checked out. Does he cry just for you cause maybe you are not gentle enough with him. Try soothing music, a warm bath, long walks and different types of rocking motions. Hope that helps!

Hi,
I am not only amazed by the viewer’s answers in recognizing the possible solution but also their efforts to give the possible solution to the problem.
Before I go into details:
ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT “CRYING” IS THE ONLY LANGUAGE OF NEONATES OR INFANTS. They don’t know how to express or tell us their feelings. So they cry.
Excessive crying is always abnormal. ALWAYS ABNORMAL. What is important here is how to differentiate or rule out the different reasons of this excessive crying?
And every child or person is individual patient. He or she should be assessed for any problem on individual basis. Because my child have it, that is why your one has the same problem is not correct approach especially in case of child. A minor mistake or delay may cause serious problems. So please read carefully.
Although my educated and experienced friends here seem to be agreed that this is most probably COLIC. I am not. I have different opinion.
To make a diagnosis by analyzing the characteristics of crying are needed i.e. is it constant? How long baby cries? Is it high pitched or low pitched? Is it associated with moaning? Is there any sign of Pyloric Stenosis (visible peristalsis)?
Is it abrupt or sudden? What is the possible aggravating or relieving factors? As you told that distracting him with a toy provides a little relief. (A transient reliving factor)
One of the important reason of COLIC is, of course, is intestinal colic which is usually is caused by “incorrect feeding and resultant engulfing of air” if baby is bottle fed. ( you did not mention it here)
CONSTANT and HIGH PITCHED crying may be due to UTI. (Urinary Tract Infection)
Colic comes in bouts. It is like a wave of pain which comes and goes. (Crying occurring in bouts). It should not be constant.
Another cause is not BURPING the baby properly. BURPING is letting the baby to settle the feed and engulfed air out. It sometimes takes long or sometimes quick.
Although it is anticipated that most (not all) either know it or will learn it but there is fair ratio of mothers who don’t know it and they don’t even tell that they don’t know it because they feel ashamed or reluctant to tell this. (Psychological factor)
Another possible cause may be some infection which is causing a pain, constant or mild to moderate pain like EAR INFECTION specially internal ear infection.(Otitis Media)
Parents may not be able to find a locus or source of infection and it is very important to rule out before proceeding to any treatment. So there are numerous possible etiologies for this crying and we cannot determine here without the physical thorough examination.
Sometimes a small ulcer of inflammation may cause this. So on.
So my opinion is to seek the help of either physician or pediatrician to determine the cause of this excessive crying. Please don’t make guesses in this regard. Baby needs help and professional help
Regards:

WOW Thats a strong allegation!!!! My baby cried like this for almost 6 months. He had COLIC! I didn't beat him. He may just be gassy as well. Don't assume she is beating the baby just because you don't like her. You need to SEE some physical evidence.

You should not make this statement or jump to this conclusion unless you have physical evidence of abuse....actual proof. If you do, contact the proper authorities immediately.
Sounds as if the baby may have colic.

is it only with you? it might be colic or gas? both can cause severe pain. to rule out gas or colic they should take him to the ped. but to help alleviate the pain try putting him on his belly on your legs and rubbing or gently patting his back or they do sell gas drops i think Mylicon....but again the best course is to see the ped. please don't accuse someone unless you have proof. Many years through child services and never ending problems with them over false accusations is not a walk in the park1

Colic is what it sounds like. But if you see any signs of abuse, immediately call it in.
