According to Buddhist philosophy: You go through stages of death that starts with the slow decay of the body and the mind's separation from it, or not, and what is called the "bardo" or intermediate state between death and rebirth (if you're stuck in samsara due to not cultivating a mind that is free from deluded thinking, clinging, attachment and aversions, etc.) or you achieve nirvana. As your mind progresses through the bardo you see/perceive various "things" (too much to discuss here) and you either perceive them "correctly" or you cling/attach or develop aversion and get "stuck" again taking a rebirth that goes with whatever karma you've sown.
Read Sogyal Rinpoche's book on "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" for a really GOOD take on the topic, if you're interested in Buddhist thought. Also Snow Lion publications has other books for sale that are quite excellent on the topic.

Everyone dies, it's a given and when you die, you must stand before God and give an account of your life. He will judge you by your heart, not anything you have done. Works will not get you a place in heaven. He wants to have a relationship with you now so you can spend all of eternity with Him. I hope you are sincere about this question and give it some deep thought.
