MOst of the gifts are actually for the parents. Picture frames and such. Some people give tiny bibles to be kept for when the kid is old enough to read, or a rosary. Baby clothes are always appreciated.

Babies are not accountable for their souls. When they reach the age that they are convicted in their hearts when they do wrong then they are accountable.
Babies can not say Yes I believe Jesus is God's son.
Babies can not say Yes, I believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again.
Babies can not PUT ON CHRIST IN BAPTISM and make that commitment to be faithful until death.

WE as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncle, brothers, sister can
not make that decision for them either. God says we must choose ourselves whether to obey HIM or the Devil!
NO ONE CAN CHOOSE FOR US! OR DEDICATE US !
We are to train our children in the LORD and when they are old they will not depart from it.
Our duty as parents is to teach the TRUTH and ONLY GOD'S WORD is the TRUTH.

Usually its a religious token. When my daughter was baptized she had gotten a gold necklace and cross from me. Other people gave money and cards.
I went back and looked in my daughters first bible to see what else she was given:
Besides money.. A friend had gotten her a blessed rosary from the pope, a infants first bible they grows with them to add information in it until adulthood, like marriage, there kids, has a family tree etc. It is beautiful.

give money to the family w/ a card or something for the baby like a toy or something or a nice outfit

You can a baby a bible or clothes.You can give a older people a roesery or a cross.

I would give a children's book of Bible stories and ask the parents to make sure and read it to their child.
