Ready for a really messy week? At three and a half, most kids are ready. If they know different word for poo and pee and can let you know if they need changed, you can do this. Buy lots of underwear. Really, a lot.
Ditch the diapers. Seriously, this will only take a few days to a week. Put them in underwear all the time when they are awake. If they are pooey, throw them out. Nothing like scraping to put you off potty training.
Let them change their own close when they are messy. Don't make a fuss or a big deal.
"Mommy, I'm wet."
"okay, here's some clean clothes"
I helped my son get redressed, but not undressed unless he was really messy. Making them bathe after every accident can help hurry things along too. I mean a quick wipe off in the tub not a bath with toys.
this has worked with some of the most stubborn children I know.

Nikki
Every child has his or her own time frame to potty train some
start early some are late, my God son was a late bloomer in this area, however his mom did not seem to mind, my 3 year old daughter asked my God son , why did he wear a diaper ? (pull up) and then she said to my God son you will need to get some boxers and spider man undies and a big red step or maybe you can use mine, tell your mom that my Dad and me will teach you to use the big kids throne just like my baby brothers, and at that moment something clicked , he became angry an said I am a Big
Boy not a baby and I don't want you to help, I can do it by my self
then he removed the pull up and the rest is history. Of course
we had a Chucky Cheese Celebration because that was his day of independence and mommy had to get on board.

We tried in vain for months to get our son potty trained...did the Pull-Ups, did the Cheerio trick, did the cutesy chart with the stickers...all of it. He knew when he had to go but was just being lazy.
So I started putting him in real underpants...or underroos as he calls them. Got the ones with his favorite character on them so he wanted to wear them, even let him pick them out at the store. We sat him down & told him that if he wanted to wear them he had to use the big potty. So we started slowly...
First evening he lasted about 10 minutes when he went...he did not like that wet/poopy feeling at all.
Second evening we were doing better...he told me he had to go but the little legs couldn't get to the potty fast enough.
Third night...he had started the sprint to the potty...stopped suddenly then walked very slowly to the potty. I was so happy my boy was teaching himself to hold it!!

Now we have started taking the Spiderman underoos to daycare where his daycare lady is helping us with the training for longer intervals. So here is what you have to remember:
1)praise your child when he has a potty success...you will see the proudness in his face
2)it will drive everyone nuts but every 10-15 minutes ask your boy if he has to go
3)be patient...some kids train faster than others...some are just too busy playing to want the hassle of going potty.

Good luck!!

take away the diapers and pull ups. I had to one day out of the blue with my adaughter at 3 because I knew she had the ability but was just being lazy. It was more convient for her to pee in her diaper than to have to stop playing to use the potty. I told her one day that when this package of diapers were gone I wasn't buying anymore. I had a hard 1 st day but after that she was completly trained in 24 hrs. You don't need to yell and scream but there is nothing wrong with being firm in a loving manner. Good luck!!!

My son was 2 when we trained him, we just took away the pull ups and put big boy undies on him except at nap time and bed time, when he went in his undies he couldn't stand the feeling and in a little over a week he was trained! Good Luck!

make an award chart with stickers when he goes and when it's full there should be an award like a trip for two to his favorite restaurant or some toy he adores.
