You know, in fairness on this question, (and I just hate it when I have to be fair!) many folks in past decades have come here illegaly and their now legal inlaws and fam are kinda pro. They ARE part of the American thangy, so it seems to me:
That we should allow the first 10,000 or whatever who can prove they are legal in with normal process. That is we stop serving that particular community, say for ex. Mexico in allowing OTHER ilegal applicants in, and let them in. This is no worse than what we are doing really. If people can conclusively prove they were here without crime etc. OK , let em' in. But the need to speak English and do the regular routine.
They rest who either don't or won't apply really don't care to be Americans and we should slowly work them out. Stop hiring illegals, close the border and let the cops run em' over to ICE or whatever when they catch em' drunk driving etc.
Joining the military would be a nice option on this for both men and women.
These illegals will leave if we do anything to make a bit tougher on them.
Many are here on a lark. The others who really want to be Americans fine. From what I can tell very few, maybe three out of 10 of the illegal want to be Americans. Those would still have to do a double duty dip of prooving their time here.
Realize that if they were illegal for less time ...they ain't gonna apply out of fear of being caught. We scrape the cream from the top of the can this way.

No! I know folks who have been trying to come for several years, legally. They already speak English & are well educated. They have to wait. If a person is here illegally & wants to do something to prove their loyalty & willingness, then the first step should be to go back & come here legally. If they're willing to do that then I'd believe them. If they're not willing to start out right, what makes anyone think they are going to be good citizens otherwise.

Now, this is an argument that some loons are promoting that scares me to death-that there can be such stupid people in this country!
We are facing a hostile takeover of our sovereignty, and morons want to train them in the arts of combat! The more Mexicans that pass through our military into our police ETC. and the fewer Native born Americans doing the same is a very very stupid trend!

My brother in law did this and just got back from serving a 2nd term in Iraq. He was granted U.S. citizenship and has learned English. He's an educated, well bred, courageous guy.

No. Illegal status means that U.S. laws have been broken. Our country should not welcome lawbreakers nor should we soften our stance by permitting any changes or exceptions to our immigration laws.
Immigration laws were enacted to protect U.S. interests. If our government is not going to enforce its laws we should disband congress and find some legislators who will not flip-flop on issues involving our protection.
We put our politicians on notice on November 7th, and we need to continually remind them that we are serious about them doing a good job for us.
Backing down re our laws is not doing a good job! It merely indicates that we are governed by a bunch of spineless jellyfish..................

NO WAY!!!!!!
1. how are you going to know for a FACT they've been here five years or longer??? Their documentation is FAKE or STOLEN!!!!
2.Just because they might speak english, does NOT nullify the FACT that they broke into this country ILLEGALLY!!!!!
3 They do NOT want to be Americans, what makes you think they would fight for THIS country, when their allegiance is to mexico???
Anyone who has EVER sneaked into this country, whether five years ago or five minutes ago, is still a CRIMINAL and should be treated as such!!!
