This would make sense to me. The Welsh for George is "Siors", which is pronounced more or less the same way. Under the Auld Alliance there would have been a lot of French in the background and the French Georges with its two soft "g"s would have been pronounced in a not dissimilar way.

well im scottish and ive never heard this, i know plenty of men called george who get called dode.
