I lost my son many years ago. People said some really stupid things. I have learned over the years, just being there, holding a hand or hugging someone helps. Send a card every now and then, just a 'thinking of you card'. It doesn't need to say much, it just shows them that you remember. That's all we want. Someone to remember our loss. I will often give one white rose to the mom, not necessarily at the time of the death, but maybe prior to a birthday/holiday, etc. Once again, letting her know her baby is not forgotten. People do say silly things, but just being there, being a good friend who remembers is most important.

Be there to give whatever kind of support they need and eventually help them honor their son in some special way. Try to help them focus on the joy he brought them when he was alive. My sympathy and prayers are with you both.
