When tri corning the Flag the stripes are completly covered. I'm former Navy and I don't know anybody who does.

One of the answers I saw is pretty dead on, but it isn't specific to the mother. I served on active duty for 7 years and have been on countless Flag and Funeral details. The saying goes (and I don't unfortunately know the origin) Never let the American Flag 'bleed". That is why you don't show red. By the way it doesn't always come out that way. it takes practice to make sure you leave enough to tuck it away.

Its all how it is folded, 13 times, and when properly done on the proper size flag, 13 stars appear, representing, the 13 original colonies.

thanks for your service to this great nation.
when a flag is folded during funerals, it is normally given to widow,or mother. the red of the flag signifies the blood that was shed in defense of this nation so i dont think they want to show that red to a mother/wife who is in grief.....

not designed that way i dont think its just the way it comes out on the folds.
