There could be something wrong with him. Any change in a dog especially a senior dog should go to the vet right away and be looked after.
My senior dog was eating alot for then usual for some reason, so we took him to the vet and it turned out he has Dementia, and some other things wrong too.

So take your dog to the vet.

I wish you the best of luck.

My mom had a very old Maltese/poodle mix, she noticed behavior like this and took him to the vet, his eyes were going and possible his hearing. We think his sense of smell also, cos why would he snarl, he knows all of us. She changed to accommodate him in his old age, always making sure he knew she was around, carrying him a lot so he was not so afraid, when he hid in a place she could no reach him she waited for him to come out, talking to him all the while. His getting older was hard on my mom and finding out that his sight was going even harder, but she said to us that he brought her so many years of joy that now it was her time to make him feel as safe and comfortable as she could. Take yours to the vet to have everything checked out.

He could be in pain, some dogs tend to hide or get agressive when in pain. Try taking him to the vet and see what they say, or he might have just been ahveing a bad day; either way, you don't want to take the chance of him being seriously sick or him getting into something.

Take him to see the vet. A quick change in behavoir like this usually means they are hurting. While you are preparing to go to the vet make a list of the things he has been doing and also what his eating habits and bathroom habits have been while he has been actiing strangely, this will help the vet.
