Popsicles-work wonders.
You might want to talk to your significant other, sibs, or parents depending on your age. You may have a sleep disorder (think snoring or sleep apnea) that is causing the dryness. Certain meds can also cause your mouth and/or throat to be dry. Sinus infections, allergies, and the common cold can cause dry/sore throat especially when lying down. (From all the phlegm draining from your sinuses down your throat--gross huh?)

If any of the medical conditions may apply to you---consult your doctor. You may be able to avoid waking up with a dry throat all together! If not, it's all about Popsicles!

You can't cure your throat, but to relieve the pain (temporarily) the best fix is to gargle with warm salt water. Cepacol lozenges are also very good for a very sore throat, but you shouldn't take more than four a day, you can fill the gaps with the salt water rinse and take ibuprofen as well, it will help with pain and even a bit with swelling. Some doctors do recommend cough medicine and some do not. A productive cough (you cough up phlegm) is annoying but suppressing it can create prime conditions for pneumonia. If you are going to use a preparation for coughing, make sure you know what else is in it (for instance, if one has a pain reliever in it, you should be aware so you don't take a double dose.) Try Delsym syrup, along with cepacol lozenges, salt water gargling and ibuprofen. And get plenty of rest. And if you are nauseated, make sure you can eat before/when you take the ibuprofen or drink some milk or eat yogurt, or else skip it, because it can further irritate your stomach. Ny Quil will help you to sleep at night if the coughing is keeping you awake.

Sip hot liquids such as broth or tea. Tea with honey can soothe a tickle in the throat.

Try moist and liquid foods such as soups and stews. They may be easier to chew and swallow.
If you're not nauseated, try using melted butter, margarine, gravy, sauces, syrups, or broth as a moistener. Dunk foods in coffee, tea, or milk.
Eat soft, cold foods such as ice cream, frozen fruit-juice bars, watermelon, and grapes. They may feel and taste better than other foods.
Drink through a straw to make swallowing easier.
Avoid spices that bother you.
Avoid carbonated beverages and highly acidic foods, like citrus juices and tomatoes. Try fruit juices such as apple juice and apricot nectar instead.
Try medical nutritional products such as Ensure®, Ensure High Protein, Ensure Plus, and Ensure Pudding. They are a smooth, easy-to-swallow way to get the nutrients your body needs.
If mouth and throat pain become severe, talk with your doctor for other solutions.
