I have three cats and we feed them all at the same time every day. Once in the morning. I don't know if you're supposed to feed a cat more than once a day, we usually don't because one of the cats always throws up if we feed him twice in one day... But, they've never complained or begged for food except in the morning. A couple of days ago one of my cats started meowing this horrible gravely crying meow while he was sitting in front of the food bin. He had been fed that morning but he sounded so pitiful that we fed him again. He almost jumped into the food bin when we opened it and then ate ravenously like he couldn't eat it fast enough. He's been doing that ever since for about 3 days now with the same meow and everything, but he seems to be getting very thin... Other than the eating thing, he seems pretty healthy. He's mostly an indoor cat, but gets outside on occasion. What could be wrong with him? Does he have worms or something?

I'm fairly sure that the other cats are not hogging. We have 2 bowls, but one of them has 2 parts, so it's technically 3 bowls. they each eat out of their own bowl. the sick cat eats out of the two part bowl, but the cat he shares it with usually goes and eats the leftovers from the OTHER cats bowl.... but he doesn't eat his own. Then the dog comes through and polishes everything else off. I think the sick one is the only one that ever actually eats from the right bowl, so I'm sure he's getting food. I'll check his stool, but do you really think that the worms will show up in his stool??

I agree with Need a bf; someone's hogging. Feed the one cat seperatly for awhile and see. Also go to drjon@petplace.com . This is a whole staff of vets to answer your question and give e-courses. Hey its FREE. My Stimpy loves this site. LUCK

That cat is probably getting pushed out of the way. Since you feed them all at once the other cat is tryong to get in and cant because the other 2 cats are trying to eat to. Do u have 3 separte bowls? If not try that and sit each cat at a bowl! it might work

It sounds to me as though one of the cat is hogging the food from the other kittys. With the hungry one being the worse affected. Try buying seperate bowls for each cat, and see if things improve! If that doesnt solve anything, take your cat to the vet for a better look at things.

Worms will definitely show up in the stool.

If he's eating and he seems to be losing weight, the doctor might want to do blood work to check his kidney function and his blood sugar. When my cat ate like that and lost weight, he was diagnosed with diabetes.

I've asked the same question because my cat does it too. He seems to gorge himself and then throw up. He throws up whole pieces like he has swalled it whole. I changed his food to food with rice, chicken, and oatmeal blend and haven't had much of this problem now. Hope this helps.

That does sound good. Take him to the vet: He might have worms. Or he might have cancer. In a way, I hope it's worms because they're easier to cure.

Good luck!

I would definitely check his stool for worms. A tapeworm would cause such hunger. When in doubt, check with your vet.

Good luck!

Could be hyperthyroidism. "The most common clinical signs of hyperthyroidism in cats include weight loss, increased appetite (although some patients have decreased appetite), vomiting, increased thirst and urination, hyperactivity, and diarrhea."

I agree with renhoez: keep an eye on the feed.
