Diary of A Modern woman…
7.30am
Wake up and wonder what to wear to work. Decide to wear new skinny-hipped pants.
7.35am
Wonder why zipper won't glide up with the same ease it did in the changing room? Turn side-on to the mirror--- there's a balloon in there. Grit teeth, suck in belly… balloon stays (so does heavy feeling)
7.40am
Sigh. Opt for "fat" wardrobe. Decide this will be a VBD (very bad day)

Many women, like me, expect their abs to be unrealistically flat and it's often the thinnest women who complain about bloating.

Why do many women having a fat day brought on by bloating?
How to beat the bloat?

If the bloat is the result of that time of the month (which happens to me even thoguh I'm quite thin) there's not much you can do but wait it out. They say drinking more water actually helps, but I have not noticed that. Midol is supposed to help with bloating but it really doesn't.
Bloating can also be the result of constipation. I've found just healthy eating and enough water will keep me un-bloated for 3 1/2 weeks out of a month.

I'm sure part of it has to do with hormonal balance differences inherent in women and not in men. Another important factor is carbohydrate consumption. Carbohydrates cause water retention. (that is why the Atkins diet worked, people lost weight, but most never bothered to learn that most of the weight they were losing was water weight). The problem lies in the fact that people either under-consume carbs or over-consume them. Many believe that by under-consuming carbs that they will be ingesting less calories and thus weight loss will result. However, most don't realize that the metabolism will slow down, which will adapt the body to performing the same activities as before using less calories.

Limit salt intake. Salt is in everything and it causes you to retain water. Think about this especially around your menstural cycle.
