congrats on trying to stop and keeping it up for 5 days. Take something alternative like gum or a patch and just take a day at a time. try not to think about smoking. U have enough will power to go on for 5 days and so u can do it longer and forever if you want. Cutting out an addiction is a big big thing because it means u want to change for the better. I say you have already started on the right path and reward yourself weekly if you have quit smoking for a week then do sumthing refreshing for yourself and that will keep you motivated. (and ofcourse a reward shudn't be a cig at the end of the week after u quit..hahaha) then u will b obviously go back to where u started. but keep trying it will work each time u try there is hope!

Go to a hospital and see the affects of long term smoking on patients there. My mother was a very active and beautiful woman who would NOT give up smoking. Today she is in and out of the hospital, living on oxygen 24/7, overweight, coughs until exhausted. She can't go anywhere or do anything, her life is basically vegetating. You have no idea how much this hurts to see my mother living out her retirement years this way.
If you have anyone you care about or plan to have children, think about them and what you are sparing them of.
Smoking LEADS to cancer, emphesema, heart disease and deprives people of their family. I lost four uncles to the direct diseases caused by cigerettes. All of them died before they were 60. Such a waste and so painful for their families. And their deaths weren't glamorous or quick either. Should I even mention the medical bills they accumulated??
Smoking has killed more people than WWI, WWII, Korea and the Vietnam war all together. We are upset because 3000 soldiers have died in Iraq. We lose more than that to smoking each month. Not to mention the thousands that are hospitalized and suffering daily because they smoke.
Just the fact that you are struggling to give it up shows how terrible the product is!! Find something healthier to spend your money on.

I was told I had a non threatening problem with my heart that I needed to have checked as I got older. The doctor also told me that should I need heart surgery somewhere down the line, the fact that I smoked could kill me. I threw my cigarettes in the trash. Then I heard that representative of the cigarette companies tell everyone that smoking was not addictive. What a crock! Then studies came out that showed the cigarette companies were adding even more nicotine to hook people even more. Then my brother in law died of heart problems and the fact that he smoked and couldn't stop killed him on the operating table. I'm so glad I can smell again and that everything I own doesn't reek of smoke. I thank God that the effects of smoking can reverse themselves and I can get my health back. I get very, very mad everytime I still want a cigarette and I quit in 1985. I get very very mad when I realize what those corporations did to my health and continue to try to do to others. And then I add up all the $ I haven't donated to THEM by buying any of their products. How do they get away with selling that stuff?
Hang in there and get very very mad because they have addicted you without your permission.

I found stopping drinking & smoking untill you are comfortably not smoking is the best way. Ciggarettes also contain small amounts of alchohol so after a beer or wine your head starts making the connection to get a smoke. Give it a try. Or get on the Zaiban program. Good luck!

For me, I tried everything - gum, patches, pills, cold turkey - none of it worked.
Then I went for tests and had a heart attack in the hospital. I wokeup 10 days later with my throat cut ear-to-ear and my larynx gone due to cancer.
I've never smoked since.

Don't think of it as the rest of your life. Like any other addiction, just think about today. Tell yourself, "I won't smoke TODAY." If you just tell yourself that everyday, before you know it......weeks, months and years will go by.
