God scrambled the tongues at the tower of Babel. No one seems to find it sinful to learn the languages, thus undoing God's work.

Nice point - I feel we should be able to undo any and all of gods work - 'specially if ur a non-believer (as I am) and even if u do believe, maybe un-do some of the big invisi-dudes work for lent maybe "This Lent Im giving up following Gods orders...." Food for thought....

People learning different languages is not people 'undoing' the work of God. If you read the bible, it tells us to be wise and go out and learn( can't remember the exact verse). Anyway, look at HOW MANY languages and races and countries etc. there are. And you call someone learning a second, third, or even fourth or fifth language, undoing God's Work? That's a laugh.

First, there's no evidence of any kind that there is any such thing as a god, so a mythical made-up sky fairy can't ever have done any "deeds."
Second, there were thousands of languages and dialects -- many of them already in written form -- long before the timeline of the Tower of Babel in the bible. The story is patently false, like many of the other stories in the bible.
Learn anything and everything -- knowledge is GOOD, superstition and dogma are BAD.

No its not sinful. Those were different times. Different rules.
God didn't like their pride. They wanted to build a tower that reached into the heavens. So God humbled them.
In order to facilitate the prophecies in the bible concerning the end times I think global communication is one of the things that needs to happen.
Not to mention that in order to spread the gospel you need to communicate with people that speak differently. Back during the apostle's time they didn't know about many languages so the Holy Spirit had to give them the gift of tongues (speaking but having people understand you in their own language) in order to communicate.

OMG. If this was God's English assignment, most of you would get a Holy F. Do you not read for meaning? In the story the languages were created because God was unhappy people wanted physical proof of his existence instead of just having faith in him. It never meant to say that God didn't want all his children to understand each other.

How about the woman who was stoned for adultery. She was caught in the act of adultery, however, the man she was having sex with was not punished in any way. What happened to him? He put on his pants and went home? Does this mean God meant adultery to be only for women. By this interpretation, men cannot commit adultery.
How about speaking in tongues? Isn't that a different language?
