abusing thyroxine for weight loss is NOT at all a good idea.
It can have serious effects on your health, mainly heart problems and endocrine imbalances.
Increased bone resorption, high blood calcium levels, chest pain, heart arrhythmias, adrenal insufficiency, etc
This is why people who are hypothyroid and on levothyroxine are monitored closely by a doctor with blood tests measuring TSH, to make sure they are within the rather narrow therapeutic window.

my grandmother takes thyroxine. Not for losing weight, but because she has an underactive thyroid. Having the underactive thyroid slows down her metabolism a great deal. She exercises a lot and eats very healthy yet she is still overweight. if she did not take the meds, she'd be even more overweight.
If you do not have an overactive thyroid and your doctor has not prescribed thyroxine for you...I wouldnt not suggest taking it, as it could screw up your thyroid.
Aim to eat lots of fruits and veggies, and drink lots of water (water keeps your metabolism going and curbs your apitite, i call it the safe diet pill)

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/Ly7gA
Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).
1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.
2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.

I'm hypothyroid and I was told that when I started the medication my metabolism would speed up and I'd lose weight This med does nothing for weight loss, so don't try it for that reason only. It does help with hypothyroid symptoms for those that need the T4 hormone. For those that need T4 & T3, then there's Armour or Thyrolar.

They are illegal without a prescription. They do work but at the cost of potentially shutting down your own thyroid. In addition, your body will burn muscle and not just fat for fuel. It is not worth it.
