Brazil nuts are in short supply because storms wrecked the harvest and the shortage will continue for another couple of years. 3/4 years ago the same happened with the almond crop

Brazil nuts are expensive so the cheaper mixes miss them out.
Pay more and get better nuts ( or read the small print on the packet to check before you buy)

Something to do with health and safety....traces of something was found in brazils a couple of years ago, now you can't buy brazils in their shells!
The European Commission has branded the nuts a health risk after traces of a toxin that can cause liver cancer were found in Brazil nut shells.
Each batch must now be tested for aflatoxins, and the cost of destroying those affected has made Brazils too costly for supermarkets to import.

Apparently there is a health and safety problem with Brazil Nuts in their shells so therefore they are no longer available. I cannot rightly remember the reason, but something in their shells were possibly poisonous or carcinogenic.
