It depends on the location of the tattoo, the size and time required and the overall skill of the artist. Some artists have a heavy hand and tattooing tends to hurt a bit more in general. Some places will hurt more than others (i.e. areas with lots of nerve endings and areas close to bone will hurt more that most fatty areas). And generally larger tattoos don't hurt more, but you do become somewhat numb to the feeling after a while and it just becomes annoying if nothing else.

Honestly, the pain isn't THAT bad, its the anticipation and knowing that no one can really tell you what its going to feel like for you. I was scared before I got my first tattoo, however, to me the sound of the gun was more frightening than anything else. Just relax and see a tattoo artist you are comfortable with. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Having a tattoo doesn't hurt. Getting a tattoo may hurt depending on the area, your pain tolerance, and how close it is to a nerve center. Once they are done with the tattoo it will feel sore for a couple of hours, but should be fine after that.

Everyones opinion is differenrt since we all have different pain threshholds but in my opinion it does hurt a little but all u have to remember is that the pain doesn't last forever, it goes away right after the tatoo has been done. Just go for it, if its really what u want then it will be worth it.
P.s also depends where about u have it done, bottom of spine is supposed to hurt and on the ankle bone too. I've had one at bottom of back/spine and it hurt more than the one on my shoulder.

Once you have found your reputable tattooist ask him about the numbing cream, the artist will put this on then an hour later he will start and you won't feel the full force of the needles. I learnt the hard way after having one on my foot which was painful when i went back to have one done on my wrist i asked for the cream and i never felt a thing so good luck and enjoy what you have .

That would depend on where you are getting your tattoo. I had one done on my lower back right above the cheeks. Yes i will admit it, it did hurt, but that was really because in that area it was a sensitive. My tailbone is there as well as many nerves. If you get your first one, areas with more of a padding will cushion the needle. It will feel like pin pricks going at a really fast pace. Honestly, even thought my first did hurt, i will be getting another one because it is worth it.

I have six tattoos, all in sensitive places. I have one on my lower back, on my ankle, and even on the top of my foot. They don't hurt that bad at all it can just be uncomfortable. Also once they get going your body will release endorphins to numb the pain. Trust me worry less about how much it will hurt and concentrate more on making sure the tattoo you get is one you want for life.

The one on my ankle wasnt bad...it felt like a cat stuck it's claw in and scratched during the outline, but the coloring in didnt hurt at all. The one on my lower back (Tinkerbell sitting on a star of life(I'm an EMT)), hurt like a b*tch! It's right on my tailbone, and when the girl hit a nerve ending, my leg shot straight out, and I couldnt put it back down until she was finished! I'm very happy witht the end result, and am already planning my next one (Snoopy as the flying ace...sounds silly, but it has a lot of meaning behind it)!

I know what you mean, I am the biggest wimp when it comes to pain, but then my Dad died and I was like I'm going to get one tomorrow and i just made up my mind and went and its on my leg above my ankle and it was so worth it, it hurt a little bit but not like I was afraid it would, i thought i would cry the whole time but i just watched a movie. It didn't feel like someone was poking me over and over with a needle it felt like they were cutting a little bit at a time, which to me was way better than i thought. I will definitely do it again. I didn't even get teary eyed at all

The pain varies, depending on where on your body you have the tattoo...
It's really not that bad... I have seven tattoos, and I'm a prize wuss! Seriously! All my friends & family will back that up! I'm a whinger with a low pain threshold!! So if I can have one done and keep going back for more, then it can't be bad!!
Go for it, you know you want to!!

I have a low thresh hold for pain but I have 3 tattoos. I have to admit it stings very little but my advice would be take a friend on squeeze their hand. It will be over before you know it and planning your next tat.

Don't put it off. Do it as soon as you can.
