They clearly didn't want to be disturbed right then. Next time someone tells you they're fine but obviously aren't, ask if you can sit with them awhile. If they OK that, they may open up to you when they are ready. Just don't press the issue, because that is what defines nagging as much as an annoying tone of voice.

If someone asks me a number of times whether I'm okay, it would be anoying, to say the least--once is sufficient. If I say I'm okay, then the person should accept it as fact. By repeatedly asking whether I'm okay tells me that the person asking me is very, very insecure.

It is never polite to snap at someone, however, even if the person asks the same question over and over. I would rather respond with, "Of course, I'm okay. Why do you ask?"

If the person replies, "Well, you don't seem okay," then I would say, "What makes you think that?" I would continue to respond with a question that asks why the person is saying, "Are you okay?" That person will eventually stop asking--if you are consistently questioning the question.

It depends on how many times you asked and who the person is. If it were my best friend, I would probably nag. But, if it was just an aquantience, I would ask one time. If they said they were fine but still looked upset, I would ask one more time. It also depends on their personality. Some people like to deal with problems by themselves and without help. Don't be angry. They were probably just in a bad mood. Sorry you got snapped at.

Yes. I understand that you were trying to be nice, and Im sure they do, too. But if you already asked them, especailly more than once, and they clearly do not want to talk about it, then you should expect them to get upset if you continue to ask. You have already voiced your concern, and if they suddenly decide they want to talk about it, they know that you are ready to listen. Either there is something wrong, and they dont want to talk about it for some reason (trying to forget, dont feel like explaining, dont want to talk to you in particular about it, dont want others in the area to hear, etc), or there really isn't anything they matter, and they are getting more and more frustrated because you keep asking them.

I heard this a long time ago - not sure where. Ask them ONCE. If they say nothing is wrong or they're okay tell them, "Oh, I'm so glad. I was worried you weren't okay" and walk away. Next time they'll get right to the point.

They're just having a bad day. Let them marinate in their own funk and they'll be fine. If they wanted you to know what was wrong, they'd tell you. More than likely they'll apologize to you later, if they have any manners.

It's annoying to be asked the same thing over and over. The person may not have been feeling OK but didn't want to discuss it with you.

Yeah sure it is. Once is usually good backed with an Are you sure? After that it becomes annoying. Usually when someone isn't ok then they'll tell you.
