9PM. That's my daughter's bedtime and she's 6.

Might vary depending on what time he needs to get up for school.

I can't believe all the answers saying some people are wrong for putting their kids to sleep later than 7:30 or 8.

All kids are different and need different amounts of sleep. My daughter gets into bed at 9PM and usually falls asleep right away. She has no issues with being tired or cranky during the day.

Just go with what suits your kid best. Try 8:30 and then 9PM. Kids are very flexible. They don't need to be a super tight schedule.

He may be falling asleep that much later because hes over tired. Try putting him to bed 30 minutes earlier. You could also try setting a bedtime routine giving him time to wind down for an hour or so before bed..say warm bath and once hes in his pjs a story together with the tv etc off then to bed.

No, I used to go to bed at 8pm when I was 7. And i used to fall asleep at 9:30 too, its just that kids have a high energy rate (much higher than adults) so, as a child, you don't settle down as easily as adults will, but keep sending him to bed at 8pm, you're doing a good job if you do that! Keep it up!

I have a seven year old and he is in bed by 7:30 so he is sleeping by 8:15 which seems to work well for him he gets up at 7:00 well rested.

I would say half seven winding down time is good. I am a firm believer in bedtimes and my kids probably get too much sleep, but they are happier for it.
As has been said before each child differs my kids get up very early and are extremely cranky without their sleep. Even my fourteen year old must have lights out at 10.00pm.
If he is not asleep until nine don't worry as long as he is lying in bed resting not watching t.v or reading he is giving his body a good winding down period. don't give in though keep the bedtime at eight he most definitely needs to be in bed by then.

Yes 8pm is too early no wonder he doesn't fall asleep until 9:30, poor thing. Start putting him to bed at 9:00 or 9:30.

If your son is going to his room at 8pm but doesn't fall asleep till 9:30pm and he is being very quiet then keep doing what your doing because he needs sometime to relax and have some alone time its good for him! I hope this helps but 8pm is a great time for a 7 year old to go to his room to relax and tell him at 9:00pm its lights out. Then he has 30 mins to lay in his bed and fall asleep.

I think that 8:00 is a good Bedtime. My son is 11 years of age and we only started recently letting him stay up until 9:00. This gives them time to unwind and hopefully fall asleep early enough that they won't be to tired in the morning.
