You are very luck . normally the only way you can end your time with dreads is if you cut off all of your hair. What you need to focus on is your hair care regiment. How often are you deep conditioning your hair? How often do you clip your ends? And how often do you use hot irons and such on your hair?
Clip quarterly, deep condition ever two weeks , and stay away from flat and curling irons.
I hope this helps. Your thickness can come back but it will not do it on it's own. You have to make sure that you maintain a healthy regiment.

The identical thing happened to me :( it's taken about 2 years for it go get healthful again and even now it is now not the equal as it was. However I do blow dry it rather a lot and straighten it virtually daily. So maybe lay off that slightly whilst. And don't forget to maintain getting your ends cut commonly and this quite does support quite a bit. And if you have not already are trying Aussie shampoo & conditioner. I found this really good when my hair was broken :)

The majority of hair loss prevention products on the market do very little to regrow hair. At best, they slow down the process of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), and in many cases they don't even do that. Fortunately, there's an all-natural method for you to prevent further hair loss and to regrow hair--it's called Provillus.
Provillus, an oral supplement, works to block DHT, a form of testosterone that is responsible for 95 percent of hair loss. It also works to stimulate the scalp and bring dead follicles back to life. You can use Provillus as a preventative tool, starting the program before hair loss becomes severe, or you can use it after DHT has already begun to take hold of your hair and scalp.

Sorry to tell you but it won't. I had the same thing happen to me and my friend. (We both had dreads) He combed his out and the sides of his head are still thin to this day (it was about three years ago) Mine thinner than what I had before dreads.
