I don't know why an athetist doesn't believe in a god, but i do lnow why an A-T-H-E-I-S-T does not. In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd

I realized that the only reason I believed in God was because I was raised to do so. I was taught to fear the possibility of Hell and to yearn for rewards in Heaven. For me, its more important to cherish my life here. I think that people would do more for others if they accepted that this was truly the only time they would ever have. I feel like they would take better care of the planet if they didn't shirk off the responsibility towards a god that can create a new one in 7 days! Don't get me wrong, I think that religion can be a wonderful thing. It's a great teaching tool when it comes to morals. However, religion is the reason that there is so much pain and suffering. Almost all of our wars are caused by religion. I'd rather we all just get along happily without it.

Because the more you think about it the more silly the whole idea becomes.

If there were a god there's still no point in an afterlife, or creating the universe, or giving people souls, or caring what happens.

Evolution has disproved parts of the bible and although it wasnt darwin's intention it does make you think, well why believe the rest since so much of it has already been exposed as a primitive fairytale. I could go on and on...

I never actually did believe in god. My parents took me to church as a child, but I never could believe in the concept that the universe was created by some other being. The first question I asked myself was, "who created god?" Even at five I had arguments with the Sunday school teachers to the point where I just wasn't welcome. To me, science and reality make sense - they provide real answers to the questions I have. Religion is just make believe. I'm sorry, but it just is. If you take a long hard look at it and question why you need a belief in god, you'll find that it's really for comfort - we're all afraid to die and afraid there is no meaning in life. Religion gives us that. But that doesn't make it real.

I was raised in a christian family. I always had doubts, even as a child. When I would try to pray, I would be wondering if it was all for real. As I got older I began to question even more, especially after I found out about all the other religions who claimed their god as the real one. I honestly tried very hard to be a good christian. I tried other flavors of christianity hoping to find a place where I fit in. When I finally realized that I didn't believe it was as if a weight had been lifted from me. I actually suffered from depression due to trying to fit in and once I allowed myself to become a non-believer, my depression went away. True story.

I saw no manliness in being a believer.

In most cases, upon encountering very complex thoughts, a “believers” eloquently tries to explain things by taking refuge in the "Word God" and refuses to push forward anymore of reasoning.
I felt this to be big weakness to live with. on contrary an Atheist picks it up from where believers stop, he opens up with the very denial of "Word God" and proceeds forward with reasoning.

I learned enough to realize that the deific hypothesis was unnecessary, and occam's razor removes unnecessary hypothesis from consideration.

Some atheists though never believed in a deity of any kind, your Yahweh or anyone else's god.

Which God? Everyone believes in separate God(s). We are all born atheists, most people at a young age are brainwashed into whatever religion their parents were.

You just kind of gradually open your eyes to the fact that none of the reasons, justifications or evidence for God really stand up to scrutiny.
