What things will help me as get surgery in residency ???

I am International (Foreign) Medical Graduate and am giving the usmle steps and will get my ecfmg registration soon. What other things would help me get a interview call from a good program?

General Surgery program have not been filling. Do your homework, and identify programs that attract fewer residents, but who have good reputations.
