Well, "monthly" could be a clue - it could be hormonal. There are many kinds of headaches and migraines. Cluster headaches are similar to migraines.
My son gets "classic" migraines - he gets severe pain in the front of his head, above his eyes, sees the "aura" - like flashing lights, gets nausea and feels better after vomiting a few times, needs to be in absolute dark with absolute quiet.
See a doctor.

well you can figure out after a CT scan but otherwise poor eyesight also causes headache and leads to migraine

if it is monthly then more than likely it is...but really you need to give more specifics to determine what it is
