I bought it for $1600 from Clive peters. 3 Years interest free finance and purchased 2 years extra warranty for $285 on top of the 12 months factory warranty. Is it good value for the money? What other types of settop box or DVD players should I get to get a better image out of it? (It's standard definition)

Here is the link to the TV:

HD Plasma was about at least $600 more expensive and that was an LG screen. Panasonic was even more expensive. Do you guys think I should get rid of the extended warranty? because I still can...

It's not just $150 extra for the HD version. It's much more than that. Even if it was $300 extra for HD I would get one but its more expensive

I agree with vjjohn. Go with a HD plasma. It's a good price for a Panasonic plasma but that warranty is way too high. SD will soon be obsolete and you will regret not getting a HDTV in the future. You will never be able to take advantage of HD quality video via HD-DVD player, HD programming, HD video games, blu-ray, etc. If you can spend the extra money then go HD.

I don't know where you live or go shopping. Since the Panasonic link is for Australia, then I am assuming you live there. Is the $1600 USD?

In the U.S., for $1600, I can buy a brand-new 50" Zenith 720p plasma HDTV.

$1600 USD, this would not be a good deal. I would not spend more than $500 on an SDTV, expecially for a measely 42". You will notice a slightly better quality with high definition programming and DVD movies because technically the plasma is an EDTV (480p). Plasmas cannot display at 480i.

But, unfortunately, I think you got jipped.

why would you buy a sd plasma ? thats just ludacris. you can buy a hd version for just like 150 more. theres is no need to spend that much on a sd tv. yes it is a panasonic my personal favorite, and a plasma. but sd, i didnt even know panasonic mada a sd plasma. go hd or even ed. but hd would be much better. and you are buying a panasonic plasma you dont need the extra warrenty. get the hd version and get a panasonic hd-upconversion dvd player it will upconvert your regular dvds to hd resolution and look fabulous on your hd panasonic plasma

You can get a brand new 42 in plasma from this site I found where all you have to do is enter in your email address. You can also choose the brand you want. My uncle got his tv from that site and it arrived at his house a few weeks later. If your interested the site is http://urlx.org/directtrack.com/584eb , give it a try. The one you saw is ok, the one on the site is better.
