belief should be challenged now and again, remember the christian church once sentenced people to death for saying the world wasn't flat. or the earth wasn't at the centre of the universe.
who knows what else is not true

Could this question not be flipped round the other way? There are lots of creationists and believers here too. Are they trying to convert people? Some are, some aren't.
I don't believe a theist could be converted by this forum or vice versa. I don't often answers questions like this that seem deliberately inflammatory but when people are saying ignorant things about what I believe, I will answer and I would expect a believer to do exactly the same.

everyone thinks they are right...so it's no more one than the other....I think that alot of us(non christians) are just trying to come across with " we think you are wrong...we think what you believe in is ridiculous.....get over it and get on with you lives" I think most non-believers are happy to just shake their heads at believers. Just as some christians passionately see us as idiots for not believing in what the seem to think is the right thing...we non believers think believers are idiots for believing something so obviously man made and a waster of the precious time that we have on this planet.
If everyone could just go to their own corners and let other people believe what they may..this world would be a lot better and more peaceful place.

Trying to relay the truth? Sounds like religion to me!
Hey! What's the truth. IS or IS NOT Pluto a planet.
Are we from APES or a SEPARATE SPECIES.
Did the Cosmic Casino really throw a Lucky 7 and we are here, like Dr. Plank and Dr. Hawking seem to intimate.

I actually met a Christian yesterday whom I respected immensely. Her highly devout philosophy came from years of rumination and actually made sense to me. Not that I was converted, but it was good to hear intelligent rhetoric from that sector of the population

Because they think they're right, the same reason Christians try to convert them.

They may be trying to do that... or they may have honest questions...
Either way, the Bible tells us to always be ready to answer when someone asks us about the hope we have... and do it with gentleness and respect. (check out 1 Peter 3:15)
And who knows... maybe someone who is honestly searching, will read your response and choose to come to Christ.

Everyone tries to help others to find the truth that they believe in.
It is a form of love for your fellow man.

That's a real good question darlin!!! I never noticed their rantings are geared towards conversions but I think you have a point. As to why they would want to? God knows, the likes of you and I don't.
