They are both correct.
The first is a bit stiff.
I would use the second.

October is a month where the warm and cold air battle it out (much like March)- There is still warm/humid air being pulled up from the gulf of mexico, and now there is also cold air being drawn in from the artic. As a result these two masses are clashing, meaning were seeing some really hot days and cold days, the hot days arent lasting long but neither are the cold air either. The heat wont last much longer and eventually the cold air will set in for the winter season.

be careful with the preposition that you use:
The hot weather extended into late September.
The rainy season lasts until March.

Both are right. But I think the second one is better.
