For a few reasons. First, it helps in the attraction process. People, especially women, get bored if you put yourself out there immediately. People are attracted to the mystery and the process getting to know someone.
It also guages attraction, people in general have a fear of rejection, they want to know someone is interested, before putting themselves out there.
I think these games are silly, unfortuantely, it's part of the game.

Cus most girls are air-headed morons?? Not all, but all the Cosmo reading, dieting, shoe buying, OK / Hello reading, Let's text Big Brother, thick stupid girls would do stuff like this, because they read it is Cosmo, as if that makes anything reliable..
This is why I like pragmatic, honest girls, who call it how they see it, and don't take 3 hours to get ready to go out.

i would say because it gives them a bit of power and they can take or leave that person at that time and they want to see just how interested they are and how much they will chase

If a guy thinks that you don't know he exists, it'll make him want to be noticed to some degree. I'm still not sure "why". Maybe it has something to do with that ego of their's? lol

I'm not into "playing the game" because I'd prefer to have something real but I believe that people do that so they don't seem desperate.

When guys have to work to get a girl's attention, she seems too important for him thus worth more than other girls. He'll appreciate you more than he would if you didn't play hard to get.
